Dr Fareeha Amber Sadiq is a UK trained Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Camali Clinic, Dubai. She is also known by children and families, and professionals she meets as Dr Amber.
Dr Amber trained as a medical doctor at the University of Glasgow. Following graduation, she completed General and Adult Psychiatry training at Gartnaval Royal Hospital, Glasgow and Royal Free Hospital, London as well as further specialist Child and Adolescent Psychiatry training at the Tavistock Clinic, London. At the Tavistock Clinic, she became interested in different models of psychotherapy and developed a flexible and evidence-based approach working to the management of children and young people with mental health issues. These approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy, mentalisation-based therapy, psychodynamic, systemic, family and parenting models. She has also worked in the community, day service and inpatient Child and Adolescent mental health settings.
Dr Amber has a broad range of specialist expertise in the assessment and management, including prescribing for child and adolescent issues including depression, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorders (ASD), eating disorders, risk issues, bipolar illness, psychosis and intellectual disability mental health.
From her personal and professional experience, Dr Amber has a wide and varied experience of engaging and supporting young people and their families, across the developmental lifespan. She has a special interest in the assessment and management of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and co-morbid conditions. Previously, she has co-facilitated social skills groups for children with ADHD, at the Tavistock Centre. Other areas of interest include Resilience; the impact of adult mental illness on children and families; Attachment Difficulties, and Eating Disorders.
Dr Amber is a dedicated clinician whose aim is to provide accessible quality mental health care and support in Dubai and its surrounding areas. She uses an integrated approach that combines biological, psychological and social perspectives with evidence-based care. She works closely with her multidisciplinary colleagues and links up with other professionals including school counsellors and Pediatricians, whenever possible.
Dr Amber has presented at various local and national conferences and is a regular leading contributor to radio, short film and newspaper articles including child development and emotional health issues.
As an advocate for children of parents with a mental illness, she has been involved with the Who Cares? The project, an innovative web-based approach to building resilience among children with a parent with a mental illness. Additionally, she has been awarded for her undergraduate teaching skills at University College London (UCL). She has been an active member of the Child and Family Public Education Editorial Board, The Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPSych) and has contributed to research and faculty publications within the field of Child Psychiatry and Psychology.
Dr Amber is a mother of two children and enjoys fine art and photography.
